Destructive Divorce Lawyer
A seasoned lawyer recently wrote the following, and I could not say it better:
“This reminds me about how some “divorce lawyers” handle cases for their clients. They don’t take a strategic trial or settlement approach and, when they go to Court, aren’t that great. They don’t really want an effective negotiation, mediation or collaboration. Their primitive tool is what I called “nastygrams”, letters that don’t advance resolution because these really just are red meat for their angry clients to antagonize their spouse. I define divorce lawyers as the instruments of the client’s revenge. When just one spouse has an attorney like this, churning a wastefully large fee from the client’s raw destructive emotions, the divorce process can be a wastefully prolonged agony that damages everyone affected by it.
Such attorneys get big overrated reputations but accomplish much less than adversaries engaging in honest dialogue. Mainly the best thing that divorcing spouses ever produced, their children who depend on them, get hurt by the fallout.”
